India’s largest poultry company, Suguna Poultry today opened India’s largest feed mill in Ekrajapura Village, Sulibele Hobli, Hoskote, Bangalore. Inaugurated by Shri. B N Bache Gowda, Hob’ble Minister for Labour, Government of Karnataka, this state-of-the-art feed mill at Hoskote has a capacity of 80 TPH and expandable to 140 TPH, and is built with an investment of Rs. 5500 Lakh. This modern feed mill will benefit about 2000 farmers in Karnataka while providing direct employment to over 800 people and indirect employment to about 2000.
The feed mill, which will source about 1500 MT of raw materials per day from maize-cultivating farmers in and around Karnataka, will produce mash, pellets and crumbles. This highly-automated mill will produce 2000 tons of feed per day to supply to all poultry broiler contract farms in the regions of Karnataka and Andhra, and to raise their chicks apart from the parent and grandparent layers being bred in this region.
This completely automated feed mill has an inbuilt facility to store 12000 MT of maize, 4000 MT of soya in steel silos, around 5000 MT of finished product & 3000 MT of other ingredient in the godown. The feed mill is powered by a 2.5 MW eco-friendly Bio-Fuel plant preventing generation of green house gases and earning precious carbon credits.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. B. Soundararajan, Managing Director, Suguna Poultry Farm Ltd., said, “This state-of-the-art feed mill will not only provide employment opportunities to the region but also enable the farmers cultivating maize to sell at better prices to Suguna, thereby improving the standard of living of the people.
Suguna Poultry Farm Limited is a fully integrated poultry enterprise committed to the food service industry. This integration affords us total quality process control throughout the production process from hatching of eggs to the retail broiler market. Our mission is to provide the highest quality product with an unequalled commitment to service.”
“Hoskote was the perfect choice for putting up this plant due to easy availability of maize and soya at economical rates, water availability throughout the year and availability of abundant skilled labour”, he added.
It is estimated that the annual per capita consumption of poultry meat in India is only 2kg, while the world averages 10 kg. The National Committee on Human Nutrition in India has recommended per capita of 10.8 kg meat. To meet this target, it is estimated that by year 2010, the requirement will be 9.1 billion kg poultry meat while the estimated production may only be around 3.04 billion kg poultry meat. Given this rapid growth of the poultry industry, the feed industry has also been growing very quickly. “Feed generally is considered to be the major input for poultry production and may account for 70 to 80 per cent of the total production cost”, said Mr. B. Soundararajan.
SUGUNA farms currently produces approximately 70,00,000 chickens per week, and will be expanding to accommodate 1,00,00,000 chickens per week in 2009 to spread its market elsewhere in India.
